Pedestrianisation of Pré-du-Marché and Clos-de-Bulle streets

Located in the immediate vicinity of the Place de la Riponne, these streets have been identified as essential links in the network of public spaces in the district, at the interface with the city centre. This situation leads to multiple issues of public space, quality of life, mobility, economy, heritage and environment. Initiated by the City of Lausanne, the pedestrianisation of Rue Pré-du-Marché, Rue du Clos-de-Bulle and Place Aloïse-Corbaz, the former Placette Pré-du-Marché, was accompanied by a participatory process. This project, which took about a year to complete, was discussed with the shopkeepers’ and residents’ associations and the users of the nursery. The pedestrian zone is materialised by a continuous floor of permeable paving stones completed by smooth strips to facilitate the movement of wheelchairs and pushchairs in particular. It qualifies the public space, reinforces the presence of vegetation in the urban environment and meets the expectations of the inhabitants, both in terms of fun and comfort.
