Rue Mercerie redevelopment

This development in the pedestrian zone at the heart of the Cité puts pedestrians and gentle mobility at the heart of an enhanced, green public space. Located at the top of rue Mercerie, in the immediate vicinity of the Cité gymnasium, this landscaped square offers users an island of urban coolness. The topography of the site is emphasized by the horizontal lines of the terraced seating along the Rue Pierre-Viret retaining wall, with a water cascade at each break in level. Two overflow fountains are also used to water the planted containers, thanks to partial water recovery during the summer months. A third, accessible to the disabled, is suitable for those who wish to quench their thirst. Tree planting complements the existing vegetation to provide shade for walkers, and also acts as a moderator for delivery traffic.
